All of us desire white and bright teeth that we can flaunt in our social circles. Teeth can be whitened at home or at the dentist’s office. Teeth whitening can be taken up by anybody who has healthy teeth with no fillings or replacement teeth. This procedure is best for those whose teeth are in shades of yellow. However, kindly note that this cosmetic procedure is not suitable for everyone, and the dentist would have to take a look at your oral health and analyze if you truly need a teeth whitening treatment.
Toothpaste is one of the most basic forms of teeth whitening agents. All toothpaste contain mild abrasives that help keep teeth white. Selective products also contain polishing and chemical agents that are slightly more effective in whitening teeth. Toothpaste can whiten teeth up to one shade.
You can also get your hands on over-the-counter teeth whitening gels and strips. Simply purchase one at your nearest pharmacy and apply it as per the instructions provided. Be sure to follow the instructions as the application procedure and time could vary based on the strength of the peroxide.
Mouth rinses, too, contain elements such as hydrogen peroxide that help whiten teeth. Swish the liquid around for about a minute every day and notice results in 2-3 months.
When you visit your dentist next, enquire about tray-based tooth whiteners. These are basically devices similar to the mouth guard but contain whitening gel inside. The tray would have to be worn for 2-4 hours, based on your dentist’s recommendation.
A quick way to restore the color of your teeth is to opt for in-office whitening. The teeth bleaching procedure is conducted along with heat, laser, or a special light. This expensive approach lets you see results immediately and can help improve the teeth color by 3 to 8 shades. With this method, you can witness dramatic results in the very first appointment, but some may require more than one appointment to achieve the desired results.
Tooth or tissue irritation on conducting teeth whitening procedures is not unknown. Go for the treatments only if absolutely necessary, and after you check with your dentist if your teeth are healthy enough to undergo the procedure. Fix up an appointment and take up a teeth whitening treatment that both you and your dentist agree on.
